Our First Demo

We are very excited to release the very first ever Eye of Zegu Demo!

The goal of this release is to get feedback from users on the concept of the game. We want to know if Zegu resonates with itch.io users.

A  decision we made for this demo was to create a ziggurat shaped maze, allowing the player to progress inwards towards Zegu while simultaneously moving upwards towards their goal. This change from a  traditional maze layout enabled us to create 'levels' for the player to climb, and solved a visibility problem we encountered with the high walls our previous maze had.

In addition, we added a character model for Zegu himself. We decided to go with a blue and black color palette to bring a unique twist to the tense atmosphere.  The scene resembles a dark labyrinth we think would be the right setting for this game, and Zegu is blue, as well as his gaze, to stand out from the level.

The main game play loop requires the player to move towards the goal without being caught by Zegu's line of sight. If they are seen by Zegu, they lose the game and have to restart. While we plan to expand on the reaction to being seen, our goal was to test the foundation of the relationship between the player and Zegu.

Finally, to those who are interested in testing our game, we encourage you to download our test build, and fill out our user feedback survey, so that we can make a better gameplay experience for our fans here on itch.io. Thanks so much for following our development and we look forward to bringing you more news on the project soon!
